What is tapping doing on a hypnosis site?
Truthfully it is a very fast, simple, and safe way to change the knowns (see Theory of Mind)
Tapping, or EFT, is a wonderful and fast clearing tool. It is an easy way to clear limiting beliefs, fears, doubts, anxiety, pain, and cravings as well as installing new and positive thoughts and beliefs.
It is done by tapping on the energy meridians of the body while saying a statement about that which you want to clear. The energy meridians are the same meridians used in Chinese medicine by acupressure practitioners. What is really great about tapping is that you only tap with your fingertips and you don’t need to know anything about Chinese medicine.
The best way to learn about tapping is to experience it. So….let’s get started.
Since many people turn to hypnosis for weight loss, let’s tap for a craving…..like chocolate.
Next, rate it on its intensity. On a scale of 1 – 10, if you could easily not eat chocolate give it a 1. If you think that you have to have chocolate or you are going to go crazy (for example) give it a 10.
You can tap with either hand, it doesn’t matter….on either side of the body.
Now, begin with a set-up phrase while tapping the Karate chop point and saying something like: “Even though I really want chocolate”, I completely respect myself. Do this three times.
Then you start tapping on the other points while stating the reminder statement…..tap on each point about 5 to 7 times. Don’t worry about being really exact about any of this, tapping is really forgiving, and it still works!
So, while tapping on the inside of the eyebrow say, “I have to eat chocolate”.
Now tap on the outside of the eye, lightly tapping on the bone on the outside of the eye and say something like, “I really want to eat chocolate.”
Tap on the top of your cheekbone under your eye and say again, “I have to have chocolate.”
Next tap under your nose and say, “I want chocolate.”
Tap you chin, in the dent between your lower lip and chin and say, “I really want chocolate.”
Tap on the point on your chin (the crook of the chin) and say again, “I have to have chocolate.”
Now, tap on the collarbone point which is not really on the collarbone but is actually about an inch below the bone slightly to the left or right of center (below the big bump), and say “I want chocolate.”
Next, tap the point under your arm on either side of your body, about four inches below your armpit and say “I really want chocolate.”
And now, tap on the top of your head and again say “I really, really want chocolate.”
Take a deep breath in and out and check in to see how much you still want chocolate. How intensely are you feeling it on a scale of 1 to 10? The number should have come down. You can continue to tap saying the reminder phrase until the number is way down to a low number.
Very often, the issue “morphs” a bit into a variation of the original issue Let’s say that you started with being angry about something and after tapping on that issue you realize that you are now feeling frustration, or sadness, etc. Then you would tap on the new issue to clear that out.
